About The Event

In sorcery, it is believed that some objects have will or volition. Using examples from Benin in West Africa, and also Gardnerian Wicca, Dr Tim Landry explores how these special objects are used -- and what makes them desirable. He brings new insights into how and why ritual magic works as both a social and a mystical phenomenon.  Dr Tim Landry is an anthropologist who draws on a decade as a diviner’s apprentice in Bénin and also on his experience as an initiate of Gardnerian Craft. His most recent book is Vodun, with University of Pennsylvania Press.
