About The Event

Join grimoire scholar Dan Harms in a lively illustrated lecture on the history, mythology, and symbolism of British necromancy, Seeking communication with the dead was one of the less common goals of early modern British magic but some certainly pursued it. The most notable ritual was a churchyard ceremony to summon the 'keeper of the bones,' often identified as the spirit Azazel, who would bring forth the ghost in a dream. In this operation are unexpected attitudes and fascinating practices of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. An informal party follows the talk, with complimentary wine and soft drinks.

Dan Harms is a librarian and writer from central New York. He is part of the team responsible for The Book of Oberon, The Book of Four Occult Philosophers, and Witch Bottles: History, Culture, Magic. He will be in London during a rare visit to the UK.
