Practical Magic: Squares and Pentacles
This workshop with Rebecca Beattie decodes the seals, sigils, pentacles and magic squares which fill so many old grimoires
Time & Location
14 Jun 2021, 19:00 – 21:00
About The Event
This workshop introduces the magic squares, pentacles and sigils of the grimoire tradition, looking at what they mean, and how they are constructed. This is an opportunity to develop a basic working knowledge of them, and what we mean by the spirits they are designed to call. Each of these three forms will be explained, with examples from actual grimoires. Rebecca will then lead a practical spell in which we make a wax tablet, design a sigil, and then create a talisman with them.
To bring: pen and paper. Optional, if you wish to make a talisman during the workshop: soya wax or beeswax, microwave, plate, cling film, toothpick or small knife.
Rebecca Beattie brings an informative approach to her inclusive style or teaching, aimed at those starting out. A Wiccan priestess who apprenticed in her tradition over 15 years, she brings much lived experience and practical knowledge. She has an MA in Literature (London) and a doctorate in Creative Writing (Middlesex) with a dissertation on the modernist mystic Mary Webb. She is a published author with several books to her name.
