About The Event

Summoning spirits, demons or angels was was a forbidden art but a few brave people have always broken the rule. This lecture looks at the actions of necromancers, cunning men and ordinary magicians of the past five hundred years This illustrated lecture explores the steps involved in this dangerous activity, and the ways practitioners went about it. Our speaker draws upon the evidence from miscellanies and grimoires, those 'devil's books' so famously feared. Daniel Harms is a recognised expert in the history of magical texts and practices, and a well-regarded author on the subject. He is in London on a brief visit: we are honoured to host him at Treadwell's again.
