About The Event

Maurice Nicoll (1884-1953) was a lifely explorer of the occult and of the human mind. He is remembered as a proponent of Gurdjieff, but Gary Lachman tonight reveals him as a sex mage who should be recognised as such  alongside Austin Osman Spare, Naglowska, Crowley, and Craddock. Nicoll had a psychiatry background, direct studies with Carl Jung, and a deep engagement with Gurdjieff -- all of which underpinned the secret magico-sexual work that absorbed him for years.  Gary Lachman talks with Christina Oakley Harrington about his discoveries in the private diaries, and explains why we should acknowledge Nicoll as one of the greats of 20th century erotic occultism.  A drinks soiree follows, for further chats and book signings.

This event celebrates Gary Lachman's new biography, Maurice Nicoll, Forgotten Teacher of the Fourth Way  (hardback, RRP £25.00) Get ready for solitary “self-sex” erotic experimentations to reach visionary states, dream records, and mystical reflections, along with a deep dive into Nicoll's life. One of its joys is Lahman's vivid portraits of the occult scene between 1900 and 1950, including some of the bohemian communal living situations of the period.
