About The Event

In an electrifying one-woman show, Xanthe Gresham Knight brings to life the tale of Morgan le Fay, the Arthurian sorceress, as told through the herbs around her.

When Morgan first appears in the romances, she is in a boat strewn with healing herbs, singing as she floats down river through the mist. She is coming for the dead King Arthur, to spirit him away and bring him back to life. The herbs are there through it all: Blackthorn for binding, Nettle for weaving, Agrimony for sight, Yarrow for healing, Mugwort for dreaming, Hawthorn for the heart. The pavement of patriarchy tried to obliterate Morgan's  powers but she, like weeds and wildflowers, keeps breaking through concrete. Friends, we promise you'll never again see herb magic as the spellmaker's tame option.

All are invited to our drinks party after the show, with signings of Knight's book, Herba Mythica.

Xanthe Gresham Knight ‘speaks like a woman spitting jewels' (Arts Council England). On a plain stage, she ‘unfolds each story like the petals of a lotus. At the end you leave with something beautiful created in your own mind' (British Theatre Review). Internationally acclaimed, she has performed at the National Theatre, the Barbican, and Cheltenham Literature Festival, as well as festivals worldwide. The British Museum, Smithsonian, Harvard University, and the Chelsea Physic Garden are among the institutions who have engaged her. Books include Goddesses and Heroines and now A Herba Mythica: the Myths and Folktales of Sacred Healing Plants.
