About The Event

Amulets, talismans and charms are magical items that protect or aid those who own them. There are many different kinds and they’ve been used by cultures all over the world since ancient times. Although the words are often used interchangeably, they’re subtly different. Amulets are believed to have intrinsic roperties that protect the wearer or attract luck, such as a four-leaf clover or an acorn, or religious symbols with inherent positive powers. Talismans are made and enchanted for a magical purpose, often inscribed with sigils, planetary symbols, or words of enchantment. Charms were traditionally spoken words, but nowadays are often thought of lucky items.

This workshop will explore amulets, talismans and charms in history and in the world today. We’ll think about objects we have and keep for luck or that we feel are imbued with beneficial magic. There will also be a chance for everyone to make easy amulets themselves using paper or card and pens or pencils.

Lucya Starza is an eclectic witch in London whose decades of practice inform her teaching and writing. She has written books on candle magic, poppets and now scrying. Lucya writes weekly in her famed and acclaimed Bad Witch's Blog.
