Named after the practice of ‘ill-wishing’ which produced an ailment that was frequently diagnosed in the period discussed in this book, White covers a broad range of magical practices that took place in Cornwall during the 19th century. The structure of this book draws heavily on news reporting from various areas in Cornwall detailing the ways in which magic is believed to have been used and instances of individuals providing magical services to earn a living. This form provides a unique insight into the everyday nature of witchcraft across Cornwall through information about it was consumed by the general public. With a foreword by Steve Patterson.
