HELLEBORE is an independent zine dedicated to folk horror and the themes that inspire it: folklore, myth, history, archaeology, psychogeography, and the occult.

The Beltane 2022 issue of Hellebore zine is appropriately themed The Ritual Issue, evoking the various rites and ceremonies that are enacted across Britain and Ireland around May Day, as spring finally gives way to summer. Historian Francis Young opens this issue with a look at Folkore, Myths and Legends of Britain, the classic tome published by Reader's Digest in the 1920s that would become the unofficial bible of folklorists everywhere. Catherine Spooner contributes a piece on the archetype of the May Queen, and of especial note as well is an account by musician Angeline Morrison on the long-forgotten stories of her Black ancestors. English folk dance, the real-world traditions behind The Wicker Man, and the 'Cambridge Ritualists' represent some of the subjects covered in the other brilliant contributions that make up the latest issue of this cult(!)-favourite zine.

Featuring words by Francis Young, Catherine Spooner, Victoria Anne Pearson, Maria J. Pérez Cuervo, Clare Button, Hannah Armstrong, Aleco Julius, and Angeline Morrison. Artwork by Nona Limmen, Richard Wells, and Nathaniel Hébert. Edited by Maria J. Pérez Cuervo.
