Stamford, CT: US Games Systems, 2006. New. Complete set with instructions. Large format cards.
This is one of the classic decks of the modern occult tarot. Devised by Aleister Crowley, it contains the kabbalistic and astrological attributions described in Aleister Crowley’s The Book of Thoth. The deck was painted by Frieda, Lady Harris, during the early 1940s, in the midst of the Second World War. At the end of the War Harris hosted an exhibition of the paintings, but the rationing of paper and the shortage of funds meant that the deck was not produced immediately.
The artistic power of the card illustrations has recently been recognised, and the paintings have been shown again in international exhibitions of esoteric art. The depth and complexity of the symbols is witnessed in Crowley’s book of Thoth, and has also been rendered more clearly accessible in studies by Banzhaf and Duquette. The deck also comes with a small instruction booklet included.
